The Latin American community is often marginalised in public policy decision making, and linked to this, their chances to enter the labour market successfully are curtailed, even more so if we consider further intersectional layers of marginalisation. That’s why one of the main goals of this programme is to create opportunities for women in our community to develop skills and gain work experience in the VAWG sector. We believe this is also a way to challenge the inequalities they face in the job market.
Volunteers help greatly in delivering our services and creating more capacity within the teams. The programme has also been a great way for women from the Latin American community to get job opportunities at LAWA and elsewhere that they might not have been able to access otherwise. This has been done through our internship programme, which is our youngest community engagement initiative.
LAWA’s team of volunteers recently won the ‘Volunteering Team of the Year 2024’ award granted by Voluntary Action Islington. This is a great way to recognise the amazing work that all LAWA volunteers do. Their contribution is vital to the organisation, so it’s fantastic that they’ve now got this public recognition!
If you’re interested, please download the application form and send it
to volunteer@lawadv.org.uk once completed.
We have two cycles per year, and the next cycle is expected to start in July 2025. If you are interested in becoming a counselling volunteer, we accept applications throughout the entire year. Make sure you indicate in the email subject that you are applying for this area.
We are constantly looking for positive and energetic Latin American and other global majority women to join our team. We are led by and for women of our community, and therefore, our volunteer programme is exclusively for Latin American and other global majority women. However, we do not rule out the passion and skills that women from different cultural backgrounds can bring to our organisation. If you do not have the profile we are looking for, but you are interested in supporting us, please consider donating, sharing our social media content, and supporting our public campaigning activity.
We seek skills in different areas for different roles. It is preferable that you speak English and at least one Latin American language – Spanish or Portuguese.
