LAWA and LAWRS: Breaking barriers together for Latin American Women in the UK

For Latin American women in the UK, systemic barriers – from restrictive migration policies to a lack of culturally tailored support – make accessing safety, justice and dignity even harder. Many survivors of abuse, particularly those with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF), are left without essential resources, facing impossible choices between violence and destitution.

As the two leading organisations supporting Latin American women, Latin American Women’s Aid (LAWA) and Latin American Women’s Rights Service (LAWRS) are coming together to tackle these injustices head-on.

Collaboration is at the heart of who we are as a community, and this partnership reflects the strength, resilience and solidarity that define us. Our latest joint work highlights the critical need for intersectional, survivor-centred solutions and the power of collective action. Together, we are amplifying voices, providing life-saving support, and driving real, lasting change.
